For World Day Against the Death Penalty 2025, Justice Project Pakistan (JPP) presented Unheard, a groundbreaking metatheatrical performance staged at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad. Written by Deborah Pearson and Syma Tariq, creatively directed by Ryan Van Winkle, and produced by Iram Sana, the performance brought to life the real testimonies of women incarcerated under Pakistan’s drug laws through sound, music and voice.
Performed with a live score by Qurram “Q” Hussain (JoSH), Unheard marked a powerful convergence of art and advocacy, amplifying stories of silence, stigma, and systemic injustice. The event convened lawmakers, diplomats, artists and human rights experts, underscoring Pakistan’s progress on drug law reform and reaffirming JPP’s commitment to humanising justice through creative storytelling.
